Just over one month into the MLB season, we have a sample size large enough for our first xwFIP leaderboard of the year!
Here are the top pitchers in baseball with at least 8 innings pitched (IP).
Table 1: Top 30 pitchers by xwFIP through 4/30/25 with at least 8 IP
Picking up from where he left off last season, A’s closer Mason Miller has the best xwFIP in baseball at 0.70. He’s followed by Angels righty Ryan Zeferjahn, Blue Jays closer Jeff Hoffman, Dodgers reliever Kirby Yates, and Guardians reliever Hunter Gaddis in the top 5. The Yankees have three relievers (Fernando Cruz, Tim Hill, and Mark Leiter Jr.) in the top 30 and the Phillies have two relievers (Jose Alvarado and Matt Strahm) and one starter (Zack Wheeler).
The table below lists the top 30 starters in baseball with at least 4 starts:
Table 2: Top 30 starters by xwFIP through 4/30/25 with at least 4 starts
As we can see from the table, Mariners ace Logan Gilbert, Royals ace Cole Ragans, Pirates ace and 2024 NL Rookie of the Year Paul Skenes, Wheeler, and Dodgers ace Yoshinobu Yamamoto are the top 5 starters in the majors. Rangers 36-year-old Jacob DeGrom, a two-time Cy Young Award winner, ranks 11th; 2024 AL Cy Young winner Tarik Skubal ranks 15th; 2024 NL Cy Young winner Chris Sale ranks 16th; and Mets converted starter Clay Holmes ranks 26th.
